Over the past twenty years campaign spending has been increasing at an astronomical pace!?

Do you believe that this is good or bad for democracy? and why?Over the past twenty years campaign spending has been increasing at an astronomical pace!?
Nice topic! It is a good and bad thing. If the spending did not increase then there would be much more canidates running and for the canidates that had more supporters, it would be harder for them to pull away from the pack. The bad thing is that this spending goes against the idea of democracy. When you think about it, the president is great but the real power is seperated between Congress, President, and the Supreme Court. This excessive spending goes against the idea of our forefathers. Also, the greater spending might also be caused by inflation. Thats not the reason for all of it, but it would be different without it.Over the past twenty years campaign spending has been increasing at an astronomical pace!?
And the job only pays a little over $400,000 a year.

Now ask yourself, ';why?';
Bad. Political ads are an ineffective medium for adressing issues. Only attack ads are really effective, so it shifts the nature of the debate to a valueless exchange of /ad hominems/.
Really bad. Big contributors expect something back and are not concerned with what is right for the country-they only care about what is right for them. MONEY-MONEY-MONEY
I don't think it matters...

What I have a problem with is when they don't do their job when they get there...
